Patrick is a globally recognized economic development professional with extensive experience in both the public and private sectors. Patrick brings a wealth of knowledge of international best practices and a track record of practical delivery and innovative solutions across a wide range of policy areas.
Patrick is currently Lead for People and Places at the New Zealand consultancy, MartinJenkins and has more than 25 years’ experience working across the public and private sectors in strategy development, policy formulation, research and evaluation, scenario planning and visioning. Patrick is a hands-on practitioner who focuses on the client’s needs.
Prior to returning to consultancy in 2018, Patrick was previously the General Manager for Business, Innovation and Skills with Auckland Tourism, Events and Economic Development (ATEED) and led the development of GridAKL, the Innovation Precinct at Wynyard Quarter, and oversaw the organizations wider economic development, employment and skills programme.
Patrick spent eight years as an economic development consultant in the UK and held a number of senior roles with the London Development Agency. Patrick has presented at previous APC Summits and has shared lessons internationally through conference presentations and webinars for the IEDC, the World Bank and the Brookings Institution.
Before moving to New Zealand in 2013, Patrick spent eight years’ in public policy and economic development consultancy in London, where he worked with clients in local, regional and central government. Prior to this Patrick was the Director of Strategy and Corporate Planning for the London Development Agency.
Patrick is a seasoned presenter and commentator and contributes regularly to international events and webinars including those led by the World Bank, the Brookings Institution, the Asia Pacific Cities Summit and the International Economic Development Council.
Patrick has a BSc in Town Planning Studies, a Post Graduate Diploma in City and Regional Planning (Distinction), and a Post Graduate Diploma in Social Science Research Methods – all from Cardiff University. Patrick is a Chartered Town Planner (MRTPI) and a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts (FRSA), a member of the IEDC’s International Advisory Council and a former Board member of the European Association of Regional Development Agencies and Economic Development New Zealand.
